Marij Pregelj – Koteks Tobus Boutique Tapestries
This collection of eight tapestries created in 1967 are based on secular monumental paintings by Marij Pregelj (1913-1967), one of the most eminent Slovene painters of the mid-20th century. They were woven by the Novi Sad tapestry artist Etelka Tobolka (1919-1989), and are a valuable example of such work, rarely to be found in Slovenia. The tapestries were commissioned to decorate the premises of the Koteks Tobus Boutique in Ljubljana (today KOTO d.o.o.); when the shop was closed for renovation in the 1970’s the tapestries were put into storage. The collection was rediscovered in 1998 as a consequence of research into the work of Oton Jugovec, the architect who designed the boutique’s interior. Following their restoration and conservation in 2003, the owner of the tapestries, KOTO d.o.o., entrusted the tapestries to the Ptuj-Ormož Regional Museum.
NOTICE: The Pregelj tapestries are currently not on display, they will be exhibited again in Ormož Castle at the end of October 2022.
