Borl Painting Colony

The Ptuj Museum houses an extensive collection of paintings from the Borl Painting Colony, which took place in our area between 1969 and 1984, based at the former Borl resort, and was created at the initiative of the then municipality on the occasion of the 1900th anniversary of the first mention of Ptuj in historical sources. It was the first painting meeting in this part of Slovenia. Recognizable Slovenian academic painters of the time were invited to participate in the creative process, and they created an extensive collection of fine art works, mostly featuring the landscape themes of the picturesque Haloze and Ptuj Field. It has been 40 years since the last organized colony, so we have decided to once again commemorate the valuable fine art collection of works by renowned Slovenian painters of that time with a comprehensive exhibition. The artistic legacy created during the fifteen-year operation of the painting colony is, in its quality, content and abundance, a very special testimony to the art-historical, historical and ethnological value even today.
